Heat That Reaches
Where Hands Can't.
Hot Stone Massage
in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Tight muscles resist pressure. Heat doesn't give them a choice. Our licensed therapists use smooth, heated stones to warm and release deep tension — getting further than any hands-only session can.
Some Tension Won't Budge.
Heat Changes That.
Hot stone massage uses smooth, heated stones — placed on the body and used as an extension of the therapist's hands. The heat relaxes muscle tissue before pressure is applied, so your therapist reaches deeper with far less force.
It's not a passive treatment. Stones are actively worked across tight areas — gliding along the back, shoulders, and legs — while the warmth opens tissue that manual pressure alone can't fully access.
At Elite Spa Utah, hot stone is performed by licensed massage therapists. Every session is therapeutic first — tailored to where your body actually holds tension.
Deep Muscle Relief
Heat softens tight muscle before your therapist works it — reaching depth that pressure alone can't get to.
Better Circulation
Warmth opens blood vessels, pushing more oxygen into tired tissue and flushing out what's causing soreness.
Nervous System Reset
The weight and warmth of the stones signal the body to stop bracing — often within the first few minutes.
Joint & Stiffness Relief
Gentle heat around stiff joints eases surrounding tissue — useful for chronic stiffness and early arthritis.
Better Sleep
Most clients sleep noticeably better the night of their session. The full-body unwind carries past the table.
Gentler Than Deep Tissue
Same depth. Less force. If deep tissue has ever felt too aggressive, hot stone gets there without the intensity.
Hot Stone Sessions
for Every Need
Classic Hot Stone Massage
Full-body work using heated stones and hands together. Stones are placed on the back, shoulders, and legs while the therapist works the surrounding tissue. The standard — and for most people, all they need.
Hot Stone Back & Shoulder Focus
Concentrated heat work on the upper and lower back, shoulders, and neck. Built for desk workers, drivers, and anyone whose tension lives above the waist.
Hot Stone Full Body Ritual
Head to toe. Every major muscle group, extended stone placements, and a proper cooldown. This is the one for first-timers who want to know what hot stone can really do.
Couples Hot Stone Massage
Two therapists. Two tables. One room. Both guests receive a full hot stone session at the same time — a shared experience without either person getting a lesser treatment.
Hot Stone Add-On
Already booking Swedish or deep tissue? Add hot stone work to any massage for targeted heat on your tightest areas — without committing to a full stone session.
What Happens
During Your Session
01
Stone Prep & Intake
Stones heat while your therapist does a quick check-in — where you're tight, any injuries, how much pressure you want. Two minutes. Makes the whole session better.
02
Warm-Up
Light strokes get blood moving first. Then stones are placed — along the spine, on the palms, sometimes between the toes — and left to work while your therapist addresses other areas.
03
Active Stone Work
Your therapist picks up the stones and uses them directly — gliding, pressing, working tight areas. They swap between stone and hands. The heat primes the tissue; the technique finishes the job.
04
Targeted Pressure
Once the tissue is warm, specific knots get direct attention. Heat means less force is needed — which means less discomfort and better results for the same depth of work.
05
Cooldown & Close
The session ends with slower, settling strokes. Most clients are half-asleep by this point. That's normal — and a good sign the work landed.
06
After Your Session
Drink water. Rest if you can. The effects of heat therapy continue for a while after you leave — the work doesn't stop when you get off the table.
Hot Stone Works Best for These People.
Desk Workers & Drivers
Hours of static posture creates deep upper back and neck tension. Heat releases it in a way that pressure alone often can't.
Deep Tissue Avoiders
If deep tissue has ever felt too aggressive — hot stone reaches the same depth, with less force and far less discomfort.
High-Stress Lifestyles
Clients often describe hot stone as the first time they've fully let go in months. The weight and warmth do something that massage alone doesn't.
Anyone Who Needs a Reset
You don't need a specific complaint. Some sessions are just about clearing the slate. Hot stone is one of the best tools we have for that.
Frequently Asked Questions about Hot Stone Massage
What to expect, who it's right for, and how to prepare — before you book at Elite Spa Utah.
No. Stones are heated to a therapeutic range — warm enough to relax tight muscle, not hot enough to be uncomfortable. Your therapist checks every stone before placement. If anything feels too warm, say so and it's adjusted immediately.
The heat does work that hands can't. Muscle tissue that resists pressure will relax when warmed — letting your therapist work deeper without forcing it. The experience is also different: the weight and warmth of the stones create a layer of calm that most people don't expect.
Skip hot stone if you're pregnant, have open skin or active wounds in the treatment area, have had recent surgery, are running a fever, or have a condition affecting how you sense heat. Not sure? Call us at (801) 839-8880 and we'll point you to the right service.
Drink water before you come in — heat therapy works better when you're hydrated. Avoid a heavy meal in the 90 minutes before your session. Wear comfortable clothing. That's it.
Once or twice a month works well for most people managing stress or general tension. If you're dealing with something more persistent — ongoing back tightness, trouble sleeping, chronic stiffness — more frequent sessions early on tend to produce faster results.
Yes. Our Hot Stone Add-On works with any Swedish or deep tissue booking — targeted heat on your tightest areas, without committing to a full stone session.
